Hans Zimmer, trying to avoid war-movie clichés, accompanies the dramatized carnage at Guadalcanal with a weepy and wistful score. The music, like the real soldier's internal war on this great film, is more introspective, sensitive, melancholy and sad, like all the wars are. It's a soundtrack where you can "see the idea" without even having seen the movie. Great work!
