Well well, now we're talking seriously about world music. Having emerged from the southern Sahara in 2001 - where, as rebel fighters, they once carried guns as well as guitars - Tinariwen have become one of the most successful acts to come out of Africa in decades.
"Aman Iman" is their third album and by far their most accessible. The key to its appeal is that, as well as the circular Touareg vocals, chanting and rhythms, there are bluesy guitar licks and an unruly energy that create sound like the raw elements of rock& roll.... interesting, right?
