1999 - Ultra Swing Nouveau

Ultra Swing Nouveau continues the swing revival with a collection of tunes from Swingerhead, Big Six, the Swing City Allstars, and other new swing bands. The New Morty Show cover "Caldonia" while the Dino Martinis rework Alanis Morisette's "One Hand in My Pocket." Alien Fashion Show's clever "Detroit Swing City" and Royal Crown Revue's "Swingin' All Day" are among the other highlights of the album, which also includes tracks from Big Time Operator, the Martini 7, Indigo Swing, and Big Sandy. What I liked about it is that it incorporates the many facets of the Big Band era -- not just the typical swing that has been inundating us lately. I've listened to swing music since I was born (my father grew up in the Big Band era) and this reminds me a lot of what he had me listening to. The Sing, Sing, Sing remake is good, but nothing beats Benny Goodman's version. All-in-all, this is a great mix of sound. A lot of fun!
